Letters From Dad - 3

Before the letters I wanted to include a text I got from Nollie this week.

Don't know if you've been watching NCAA basketball. The BYU/Jimmer hype and their loss made me think of Dad; how at this point he'd smile and quote the last few lines of the poem Casey at the Bat. There is no joy in Provo, mighty Jimmer has struck out.
I can hear and see Dad saying it in my mind's eye. Always ready with an apt quote and a smile, even for March Madness. He'd also be counting the days until spring training for his beloved Mariners.

When he was a kid, he'd sneak a transistor radio into school and listen with rapt attention to the games. Can't you just picture this kid in the same plaid shirt stealthily turned away so the teacher wouldn't see the cord up to his ear?

In September 1998, when these letters were written, he'd be hoping against hope the M's would make it to the pennant race and the World Series.

To Walk or Not to Walk

There's been some discussion about whether on not I'd walk at graduation in May. I've been hesitant because I don't really have friends to walk with.  Thanks to Nanette's insistence, I seriously considered it. A few days later one of the gals in my class mentioned walking together, so it was decided. Good thing, since I just got a call from the administrative head of the business department asking if I was going to walk. When I said yes, she asked if I'd carry the banner for the business department. After a surprised "yes" from me, she explained that the top student in the department is asked to carry the banner! Top student! Can you believe it!?? So it's officially official. I'll be walking in May.

She then congratulated me and wished me luck with the last few weeks because of the heavy class load this semester. They're going to be grueling, undoubtedly, but this silly grin on my face will make them easier.  :D

P.S. While looking for photos, I came across the newly posted graduation info that says we all walk in single file. All that worry for nothing!

Letters From Dad - 2

It always makes me smile to see the happy face on John's letters. There are several on the many letters I received while we were courting

Now the real challenge...reading the handwriting, which also makes me smile.
