Around the Storm

Nature put on a magnificent show as we flew around a storm cell outside of Minneapolis, MN Tuesday night. Lightening repeatedly lit up the clouds from the inside, creating an x-ray-like view. We heard no thunder above the thrum of the plane, and watched for 10 minutes as we safely skirted the perimeter in smooth skies.

Breathtakingly beautiful in real life, the video is a poor facsimile, but it gives a glimpse of the show. We could see the light horizon in the distance and the distinct outline of the storm cell as the power of nature raged inside.
(Turn down the sound to eliminate the plane noise.)

I found myself in awe at the power of God displayed in this single atmospheric show. Imagine the power found in the birth of a star or the creation of a world. Humbled, I murmured words of gratitude and honor.

As I continued to reflect during our peaceful travel past the storm, I was reminded of the safety we find in prayer and obedience. No doubt the pilots knew of the storm and where to fly to avoid it, for which I am grateful. I wouldn't want to be in those clouds under any circumstances.  By heeding the promptings of the Spirit and obeying the commandments, we can often travel beyond the reach of many of the tumultuous storms common to this life.
